Rotary's International Service encourages and fosters the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace throughout the world

Freedom, justice, truth, sanctity of the pledged word, and respect for human rights are inherent in Rotary principles and are also vital to the maintenance of international peace and order and to human progress.

Tikondane Clean Water & Education Project

The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise has a focus on providing clean drinking water to communities in need.  The magnitude of the health problems that can be directly attributed to the lack of clean water in parts of the world is almost beyond comprehension.

In the forefront of these problems are chronic malnutrition and diarrhea, both of which contribute to stunted growth, poor attendance and performance in school age children and high rates of infant mortality.  Clean water will allow the children and any person with a compromised health system to survive intestinal diseases and infections  caused by contaminated water.  It is estimated that a child dies every 15 seconds from contaminated water and poor sanitation.

Below are some photos of the water wells and school construction at the Tikondane Community Center, Zambia, South Africa. It is wonderful to know that fresh water is available and that education is being fostered.

Duchity Clean Water & Electricity Project

The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise provided support for expansion for electric projects and a water filtration system for the community of Duchity, Haiti following the devastating earthquake in Port au Prince.

With a mission to impact health, quality of life, and economic development, specific project goals included providing clean, safe drinking water to the village and installing an electrical production and distribution system to supply electricity to institutional and commercial buildings as well as street lighting.

In November 2007, John Ball exchanged banners with club president Raphael Izmery and made a short presentation on our water and electric projects in Duchity, Haiti.  The club web site is http://rotarypv.tripod.com/
